NEXT UP FOR JUSTIN:
After last year's glorious production of Anything Goes, Justin will return to the UTEP Dinner Theatre (America's only year-round college campus dinner theatre) to be Guest Director for their summer production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's masterpiece South Pacific performing July 6 through 22.
RECENTLY FOR JUSTIN:
In January, Justin was Guest Stage Director for El Paso Opera's new production of Engelbert Humperdinck's classic opera Hänsel & Gretel. It was staged in-the-round at the historical Union Depot train station in downtown El Paso. The production was a sell-out success (the first production in the company's 24 seasons to do so... and days in advance, at that!), and featured the talents of artists with local ties, especially women both on and off the stage. Read
about the production here.
Last semester, Justin directed Luchadora! by Alvaro Saar Rios for the University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance's season of plays. The showreached thousands of students from local schools, setting department records along the way. Photos of the production can be found here.
Also last semester, Justin once again wrote a holiday program for the University of Texas at El Paso's Fine Arts department. For the FIFTH year in a row as Artistic Director, the annual Holiday Revels showcased the university's choral programs, voice area and faculty.
Justin traveled to Colorado to direct Creede Repertory Theatre's production of Arsenic and Old Lace which ran from June 30 through August 2017.
For El Paso Opera's YOUTH NIGHT AT THE OPERA for their production of Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella) last season, Justin's community engagement and outreach successfully managed over 1000 elementary, middle, high school and college students and educators to attend! Coupled with his in-schools initiatives that reached hundreds of students in the Ysleta, Socorro, and El Paso school districts and even homeschool groups, this has been one of El Paso Opera's most successful educational seasons ever. Read a reviewer's response to YOUTH NIGHT AT THE OPERA here.
Justin’s Company last success was tour of its hit and innovative production of Disney Beauty and the Beast, which played to sold-out houses in three cities (Las Cruces, NM, El Paso, TX and Socorro, NM) this past January and February.
The tour of Hamlet earned a rousing standing ovation on November 2, after its invited feature performance for the Florida Theater Conference. Congratulations to the cast & team! (This, following a feature in the Observer about how our show is being received by student audience across the state. Read it here.) CONTEXT: Justin returned to Sarasota to adapt and direct Hamlet, which toured schools throughout the state of Florida last fall, playing for more than 14,000 students, for Asolo Repertory Theatre and Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, where he was Guest Director the prior season with a smash-production of David Ives' The Liar.
